企画概要

 

東京藝術大学大学院在籍中に制作した作品が国際映画祭で多数ノミネート・受賞をし、2013年には修了制作『空の卵』でドイツ・シュトゥットゥガルト国際アニメーション映画祭最優秀学生賞受賞を果たした作家、大川原亮の修了後初となる作品。多摩美術大学グラフィックデザイン学科を卒業した大川原が、作中のシーン全てがグラフィックデザインとしても成立するようなハイクオリティな画面構成に挑む。また、ストーリー性も重視し、デザイン・ストーリー共に一般への広い浸透の可能性を考慮し、フィルム作品としてだけでなく、様々な二次創作物の展開の可能性も狙う作りとなっている。

 

　今回、大川原が描くのは、思春期の少年を軸にしたリアルな家族像である。やり場のないエネルギーに翻弄される少年と、少年の存在にいつでも肯定的な両親。大人になれば誰もが「そんなこともあったね」と笑って懐かしむようになるこの些細な葛藤はしかし、少年にとって宇宙の全てであり、抗うも虚しい巨大で絶対な存在なのである。ただ優しく手を差し伸べる母と、冷静に解決を図る父。少年の内部へと幾度も鳴らされる警笛は、そんな両親によるものでもあり、少年自身による歩み寄りへの葛藤でもある。この作品の中で「燃える家」と形を重ねて描かれる「角砂糖」は、家庭の象徴である。外部からの攻撃による危機的状況に於いて少年がポケットの中で見つけたものは、いつも母が差し出すも少年が反抗的に拒んできた、脆く甘い、しかし真っ白な角砂糖であった。「家庭」を引き換えに外部との繋がりを取り戻そうとする少年、しかし、「他人」にとって「他人の家庭」など何の意味もなさない。その経験は、少年に「家族に歩み寄ることを肯定する勇気」を少しだけ与えるが、彼にとってブラックコーヒーはまだ熱く苦い。弱く浅はかな若い彼を、誰もが愛おしく見守る、それが家族であり、成長と共に少年は自らそれを学び、果ては結局家族へと帰結していくのである。いずれは母が差し出す角砂糖がなくとも、ブラックコーヒーが飲めるようになる。この作品は、少年が大人になる過程のほんの一瞬を切り取った、「他人」にとっては些細な、少年にとっては重大な物語である。

 

　これから思春期を迎える少年たちへ、今まさに葛藤している少年たちへ、その時代を通過して間もない青年たちへ、そして、彼らを包み見守る立場となった大人たちへ―。大川原がそれぞれに訴えかけるのは、優しい肯定だ。どのような時に於いても、人生は美しい、と。

 

For this film, Ryo tries to illustrate a real family state through the eyes of an adolescent boy.

The boy struggles with his impulses, but his parents always believe in him. That kind of trivial conflict that we remember nostalgically when we become adults is still massive in his universe. His mother tenderly holds out her hand and his father always tries to settle him calmly. The anxiety within him begins with his parents but becomes more intense with his attempts to rebel. 

 

The shape of the sugar lump mirrors that of the burning house and both come to symbolise family within the film. When the boy encounters trouble in the outside world, he finds within his pocket a sweet, fragile, white sugar lump. He flees from his domestic relationship and instead tries to rebuild relationships with his friends. The friends reject him and the experience teaches him to accept the relationship with his family, but black coffee is still too bitter and hot for him. Everyone watches over the lost young boy, loving unconditionally. This is “family”.  As he grows up, he may be able to realise it and he may become able to drink black coffee without a sugar lump that his mother offers him. 

 

This story is about a moment within the life of a boy as he grows up, important for the boy, but a trifle for others. To the boys who reaching adolescence in the future, to the boys who are in their conflict right now, to the youth who just passed the age, and to the adults who became their protectors—Ryo gives tender affirmation,"your life is always beautiful," to each of them.
